Q: Where is CCA Located?
Central Christian Academy is situated in the historic city of Suwon. Suwon's convenient location near Seoul provides easy access to the capital city by public transportation or private vehicle, making it an attractive place to live and work.
Q: What Type of visa do I need to teach in Korea?
Foreign-born English teachers not of Korean descent must have E-2 Visa. It allows people whose first language is English to teach English at schools, companies, and other similar institutions. Moreover, you must have at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution to teach in Korea.
If you are at least 22-years old, and of Korean descent, you may qualify for a special F-4 Visa. You must either have been born or have a relative in Korea to be eligible. A F-4 Visa holder does not have to undergo FBI Criminal Background Check.
Otherwise, All foreigners must obtain a Criminal Background Check to work in Korea. The entire process may take some time. We recommend that you process your documents as soon as possible.
Q: How long is the initial Contract?
Initial contract is for 2 years, beginning in February and ending in January in the following year. The contract may be extended annually if both parties agree to it.
Q: When does the school year begin, and how soon do I need to be there?
New English teachers are expected to arrive in Korea by mid-January to allow sufficient time for settling in, participating in school orientation and training, and preparing for the upcoming school year. All faculty and staff are required to attend a three-day retreat in February.
The new school year begins in early March (February 1st for teachers and staff). Central Christian Academy is seeking English teachers who can join our team by mid- to late January.
Q: Will CCA provide funds for moving and transportation to Korea?
CCA will pay for the airfare for all the new hires. The exact amount will vary based on travel distance. In addition, CCA will provide a relocation fund of 400,000 KRW for stipend.
Q: What types of housing are available?
CCA provides either a school dormitory (a limited number of on-campus housing) or a housing subsidy of 500,000won per month. Full-time employees are expected to live within a good commuting distance from school. You are welcome to look for your own housing, but if there’s a need, CCA can also assist you in finding local housing upon request.
Q: Is Medical Insurance available?
The National Health Insurance Act mandates that employers pay fifty percent (50%) of the employee’s monthly health insurance premium, which is 6.86% of the employee’s monthly income as of 2021. As such, CCA will pay 3.43% of the teacher’s health insurance premium.
Q: What are the school hours for students?
Lower-Elementary: 9:00AM-3:00PM.
Upper-Elementary : 9:00AM-4:00PM
Middle-School: 9:00AM-4:00PM (M/W-F), 9:00AM-4:50PM (Tue)
Q: What are the work hours for teachers?
Work hours are from 8:00 AM.–4:00 PM. You may be required to work or stay extra hours for the school-wide special events or for parent-teacher conferences. Middle and high school work hours may vary. *MS: 8:00 AM.–4:00 or 4:30 PM. HS: 8:00 AM.–4:30 PM.
Q: When are the official school vacations?
Summer vacation begins at the end of July and ends in mid-August. Winter vacation is from mid-January to the end of February. This, however, applies to students. English teachers are expected to participate in a 5-day English Summer Camp during the first week of summer break, and all teachers & staff will return to work in the second week of February after taking a winter vacation. In addition, we observe all national holidays.
Q: What is the school population and average class size?
We have about 1,500 students. A Kindergarten class has 21 students, and an elementary- or a middle school class has 28-30 students in each class.
